We also work closely with local specialists and national experts to assist us in diagnosing and managing unusual medical and surgical cases.

Medical Care
Medical Care

Each medical case deserves a unique approach. We utilize the best diagnostic and medical techniques to suit your pet’s needs and your preferences, involving you in the process as much as possible.

With considerable time and resources dedicated towards continuing education for our veterinarians and staff, we are constantly learning the latest medical information and surgical techniques in this ever-evolving field.

We routinely diagnose and manage complex medical cases in areas such as geriatric medicine, endocrine disease, oncology, urology, metabolic disorders, as well as many others. We make every effort to diagnose and manage your pet’s medical issues within our hospital setting. However, if the need arises, we will assist you with an appropriate referral to a specialist. Knowing you and your pet allows us to provide care that is tailored to your personal preferences, your pet’s needs, and your budget.

Hospital Care
Hospital Care

At AHoF we are able to provide a broad spectrum of services to our patients who require in-hospital care. While we are not a 24-hour Emergency Hospital with a doctor available on-site around the clock, we are able to hospitalize patients and monitor them via state of the art, web-based, remote monitoring and, if needed, in-person check-ups. We offer IV fluid therapy and IV nutritional support, feeding tubes, blood transfusions, oxygen therapy, constant-rate drug infusions, and other services. Our in-house laboratory equipment provides rapid results, allowing us to offer excellent urgent care for your pet without unnecessary delays.

Dental Care
Dental Care

As part of the annual physical exam, we evaluate your pet’s oral health and devise a preventive care plan. If needed, dental cleaning will be recommended. This cleaning, known as Dental Prophylaxis, includes scaling, polishing, and fluoride-rinsing of the teeth. We will advise you on the appropriate type of professional dental prophylaxis for your pet, such as anesthetic dental vs. preventive non-anesthetic dental. Dental x-rays can be taken to assess your pet’s oral health and to help us recommend an effective treatment plan. Extractions and various oral surgical procedures are done routinely at our facility. For your convenience, pets may be dropped off in the morning and picked up later in the day.

Spay, Neuter, and General Surgery
Spay, Neuter, and General Surgery

Spaying and neutering are highly recommended for most pets. Depending on your pet’s species, breed, and size, we will advise you on the best age to do this procedure.

The highest quality surgical methods and materials are used. We scrub and gown for every surgical procedure using aseptic technique and a new, sterile surgical pack.

While under anesthesia, we closely monitor your pet’s cardiac pulse and electrical activity, blood oxygen saturation, CO-2 levels, blood pressure, respiratory rate, and core body temperature. Our anesthetic protocols are evaluated by top experts in the field and are routinely updated based on new knowledge.

Various soft-tissue and orthopedic surgeries are performed at AHoF. For some surgical procedures, we arrange for a Board-Certified Surgeon to come in and perform the operation. Your pet’s comfort is of utmost importance to us and every effort is made to reduce your pet’s pain and stress. We employ a variety of pain-management protocols before, during, and after surgery, as well as after discharge.

Therapeutic laser is used to promote healing and cell regeneration of surgical wounds for our surgical patients, when appropriate.

Critical surgical patients are monitored in-person or via our web-based, remote monitoring system. This allows us to adjust pain protocols when necessary.

Acupuncture and Cold Laser

In addition to using medication and nutritional supplements to promote comfort, mobility, and joint health, we also provide acupuncture to aid in the treatment of many medical conditions.

We offer therapeutic laser to promote healing and cell regeneration. This can be used for both acute traumatic pain and also for chronic pain from conditions such as arthritis, also known as degenerative joint disease (DJD).

Laboratory Services
Laboratory Services

In addition to using several off-site veterinary diagnostic laboratories, we also perform various in-house diagnostic tests and microscopic evaluations. Our point-of-care, complete set of advanced blood analyzing equipment gives rapid results. This allows us to determine your pet’s health status quickly, and if needed, to provide the appropriate intervention for your pet as soon as possible without waiting for results from an outside lab.

We make it a point to personally go over all test results with you so that, together, we can determine the best way to manage your pet’s healthcare needs. We will provide you with written handouts that will further help you understand your pet’s condition and treatment options.

Radiology and Imaging
Radiology and Imaging

Since our patients can’t talk and explain their symptoms or illness, it’s often essential to get high-quality diagnostic images to help us make an accurate diagnosis. Our technicians are very skilled at working patiently with your pet in order to acquire these images. Our radiology equipment and sophisticated digital-imaging system provide very high-quality x-ray images which are processed rapidly and can be transmitted around the clock for crucial interpretation by a Board-Certified Radiologist. We use our in-house ultrasound equipment to perform limited diagnostic studies, guided biopsies, and various diagnostic sample collections when necessary. A Board-Certified Radiologist regularly comes to our facility to perform ultrasound exams and advanced diagnostic studies. In addition, a Board-Certified Cardiologist does echocardiograms and cardiac studies at our facility.

Most office appointments are scheduled for 30 minutes, with new puppy exams requiring 60 minutes. This allows us ample time to obtain a detailed history, thoroughly evaluate your pet, and provide you with diagnostic and treatment options while addressing your concerns. We pay attention to your pet’s life stage, recommending any appropriate health screens. In addition, we address behavioral problems, training issues, and look at the pet’s role as a member of your family. We strongly believe in the importance of vaccination to prevent serious infectious diseases. We will recommend an appropriate protocol based on your pet’s health profile and lifestyle in order to avoid over vaccinating.

Nutritional Counseling
Nutritional Counseling

Many health conditions can be helped by diet modification and appropriate nutritional supplements. Urinary tract and kidney problems, food allergies, liver disease, diabetes, thyroid disease, gastrointestinal problems, and weight management are among the conditions that can be tremendously affected by dietary changes. We carry a full line of prescription diets to address various medical conditions and can recommend the right diet for your pet.
